Authority: the Blue Book Blue Book, the sole PIN authority for this repo.
the Blue Book — — “All preferred IUPAC names for organic compounds are identified by the parenthetical abbreviation ‘(PIN)’ following the name. Names used in the past, but now discarded or no longer recommended, are placed in parentheses and preceded by the word ‘not’.”
These are therefore NOT merely non-preferred: the Blue Book grants unmarked
alternatives the status of a “general IUPAC name”, while a not-marked name
is “discarded or no longer recommended” and has no acceptable status at all.
Emitting one is an accuracy defect, so rules.parent_ranking uses this table
as a fail-closed veto on general-nomenclature fall-through emissions.
The table is an EXACT-MATCH veto over lowercase/whitespace-collapsed names. It may only ever suppress, so every extraction compromise is in the safe direction: rows damaged by OCR or surviving markup are DROPPED (a false negative — the veto does not fire), never loosened into a prefix or substring match (which could veto a correct name). See the extractor’s docstring for the four hazards.
